| Born in 1961, Martin Hinchcliffe's early childhood was spent in the Middle and Far East. His family moved back to the UK in 1970 and Martin attended school in the South East of England before studying at Maidstone College of Art in 1979.
In 1983 he graduated from Sheffield's Fine Art Painting course and went to work as a portrait photographer in Frankfurt, Germany. In 1985, Martin returned to Sheffield and started to lecture in art and design at Chesterfield College of Art.
Whilst at Chesterfield Martin became increasingly interested in advertising and this new focus influenced his teaching as he began to work with more and more design and advertising students. In 1999, he left lecturing and went to work in marketing and communications where he consolidated his interests in art, design and writing.
Martin lives in Sheffield, UK with his wife and children.
